Coldingham Beach Wheelchairs - FAQs FOR HIRERS
1. What Beach Wheelchairs are Available?
There are three beach wheelchairs available – a Hippocampe, a Terrawheels, and a Sandcruiser All Terrain Beach Wheelchair. In addition to this we now have a Birdie Compact Folding Hoist. They are quite different in design. You need to decide which one will best suit your mobility needs. The Hippocampe is mainly used for children and small adults.

2. How do I hire one?
You need to contact Alice at the Sea the Change office (info@seathechange.org.uk ). She will tell you whether a wheelchair can be made available on the day you want. If it can, they will take your details and email you a copy of the booking form. A minimum of two days’ notice is required. You can also click the button below and book online.
3. Is there a charge?
It is FREE for all users to hire one of our wheelchairs, however we do ask users for a small donation to cover the cost of maintenance, marketing, and insurance. Suggested donations are:
Beach wheelchair hire is free of charge. The amounts above are suggested donations to help us cover the cost of maintenance and keep the service running for everyone.
4. What are the hire conditions?
These will be emailed to you in advance of your booking. You need to tick to confirm that you have read and understood them before collect the wheelchair.
5. Where can I take them?
The wheelchairs can be used on both the sand at Coldingham Bay and they can enter the sea. This is at the user’s own risk and we advise no deeper than ankle hight. Wheelchairs can also be requested for hire over longer periods (holiday rentals). Please email to discuss if required.
6. Where do I collect the wheelchair from?
From the Sea the Change Storage unit to the left of the Lifeguards Hut on Coldingham Bay. The Volunteer Attendant will be there and expecting you. 2 disabled parking bays are available at the beach.
7. Can I hire without pre-booking?
No bookings – 2 days’ notice must be given so we can organise volunteer availability.

Our beach wheelchairs are located at Coldingham Beach. Postcode for St Veda’s and the Beach Cafe (beside disabled parking spaces down at the beach) is TD14 5PA.
Coldingham beach is an idyllic sandy, sheltered bay that is served by public toilets (disabled toilet available), a cafe open during peak season and the beach lifeguards during the summer months.
Coldingham Bay can be found in the quaint coastal village of Coldingham, close to beautiful harbour towns St Abbs and Eyemouth.
Easily accessible from the A1. Carry on through the village of Coldingham towards St Abbs and turn right at the cross roads before you leave the village past Scoutscroft Caravan Park.
There are two disabled parking bays down at the beach, plus additional parking at the top of the hill opposite St Vedas Surf Shop.
